Sundha Mata Temple Jalore Rajasthan

The historical and ancient pilgrimage site of Sundha Mata Temple is located near Dantlawas village of Raniwada Tehsil of Jalore, Rajasthan. Sundh Mata Mandir has located  approx105 km from the district headquarter of Jalore and 35 km from the Bhinmal subdivision.

It is a sacred site and an important religious monument in mythology and history. This Adi Dev Tapobhoomi is believed to be the killer of the Tripura demon.

History - Sundha Mata Temple Jalore

In the temple of Sundha Mata complex, there are three historically important inscriptions that highlight the history of the region. The temple of Sundhamata was built by the Deval Pratiharas with the help of the royal Chauhans of Jalore.

The first inscription dates back to 1262 AD, which describes the victory of the Chauhans and the fall of the Paramaras. The second inscription is from 1326 and the third is from 1727.

Sundha Mataji's temple is about 900 years old, situated on a high hill, in which the idol of "Maa Sundha" is installed, the first ropeway of Rajasthan is located here. Sundha Mata JI's temple is situated at an altitude of about 850 meters.

Due to the name of this mountain in the Aravalli range, it is also known as Sundha Mata Temple. It is also called Adesheshwari because the idol of the mother is without a torso.

This temple is made of white marble stone, resembles the Dilwara temple of Mount Abu, the temple also houses the idol of Goddess Chamunda Devi.

This place has been the Tapo Bhoomi of many sages and it is also called the ashram of Rishi Bharadwaj. After the Battle of Haldighati in the year 1576, Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, took refuge in Sundha Mata during his days of suffering.

In the early years of the thirteenth century, the Chauhan ruler of Jalore snatched Bhinmal from the Solanki of Gujarat and Sundha Mata has special respect among the Chauhan rulers of Jalore.

Due to this reverence, Uchisingh's son Chachigdev got this temple built in Samvat 1312, and in 1319, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Mother Chamunda was made famous by law.

In the thirteenth century itself, Alauddin Khilji invaded Jalore and ended the Chauhan branch and the region remained under the Mughals, Bihari Pathans, and the Sultans of Gujarat.

After becoming part of the princely state of Marwar, the royal family of Jodhpur made this pilgrimage to the villages of Dhani, Mangalwa, and Chitori.

A nine-day fair is held here twice a year during Navratras and there is a huge crowd of devotees. Every month from the full moon of Shukla Paksha to the thirteenth, more devotees visit the temple.

You can also go on foot to visit Sundha Mata Temple, otherwise, you can also take the service of the ropeway. This ropeway is 800 meters long and will take you to the hilltop temple in about 6 minutes, only 4 people can go in the trolley at a time. The ropeway ticket costs Rs 50, providing arrival and departure facilities.

Fair – Sundha Mata Mandir Jalore

A fair is organized here during Navratri, during which a large number of tourists from Gujarat and adjoining areas come to visit Sundha Mata. Presently regular buses are run by Gujarat from Palanpur, Deesa, and other places.
